Introduction of Institute of Nanosurface Science and Engineering (INSE)

The Institute of Nanosurface Science and Engineering (INSE) was approved to be established in December 2012 in Shenzhen University. Prof. Dongfeng Diao holds the post of INSE director. INSE conducts an interdisciplinary integration and collaborative innovation research on the design, manufacturing, test, and application of nanosurface. For the sake of the transition Shenzhen University to teaching-researching comprehensive university and the construction of doctoral discipline on nanosurface and optical-mechanical-electrical application, four research areas of "Nanosurface Design", "Nanosurface Manufacturing", "Nanosurface Test" and "Nanosurface Application" are performed. Through setting the operational mode with "talent aggregation", "laboratory construction" and "international professor association", INSE aiming at aggregating the international top scholars from the cutting edge academic research area, publishing the top grade research achievements, culturing the high-level talents, ultimately being ahead of the research development on nanosurface science and engineering.

From the year of 2013, with the support from the Shenzheng University distinguished professor funding and the Shenzhen top-level talents' scientific research funding, INSE has built up a 200 m2 lab with whole 10000-class clean room and localized 100-class clean room, a 100 m2 simulation and computing center and a 100 m2 environmental transmission electron microscope lab. INSE has been equipped with the Workstation for nanosurface design, the ECR (electron cyclotron resonance) Nanosurface Processing System for nanosurface manufacturing, the Multi-Functional Environmental Controllable Super-low Friction Tribo-system, the Fast Scanning Probe Microscopy with Nanoscratch Function, the Dektak XT Stylus Profiler, and the Semi-in-situ Tip Enhanced Raman and Fluorescence microscopy (TERS) for nanosurface test. In the future, INSE plans to build up a public test center with the advanced instruments and equipment, and constructs a new research platform for technological innovation of nanosurface science and engineering, which is working for the international cutting-edge research fields and the national key machinery requirement.

INSE is seeking the outstanding researchers at the frontiers of nanoscience and nanotechnology all around the world. At present, the research team of INSE consists of one professor, one associate professor, five lectures, and three Ph.D joint students. In 2014, we are planning to take job applications for 1-2 full-time researchers and 6-8 post doctorates, and setting up a research team with 20 staff which including professor, associate professor, lecture, post doctorate and Ph.D students.
